Discomfort and bleeding on the day of surgery are normal. Follow the prescribed medication instructions provided by your doctor. Apply ice to the surgical site to minimize swelling. It is crucial to avoid smoking, spitting, or using a straw on the day of the procedure to promote proper healing.
Sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures is common after deep cleaning. Wait until the numbness subsides before eating. Slight bleeding while brushing is normal for the first day or two. Continue with regular brushing and flossing to maintain oral hygiene.
Some discomfort is normal with new dentures or removable prosthetics during the first few days. Several adjustments may be needed for a comfortable fit, especially after extractions. Remove your dentures every night and store them in water or a denture cleaning solution to allow your gums to rest. Clean them thoroughly with a brush and water before reinserting. Difficulty speaking may occur initially but will improve over time.
Avoid chewing or eating while numb, and refrain from chewing on the treated side. Temporary crowns protect your natural tooth but may come off; if this happens, save the crown and contact our office immediately. After the permanent restoration is placed, slight pressure or a different bite may be felt for a few days. If discomfort persists, contact our office for adjustments to prevent permanent damage.
Avoid chewing on the treated side and refrain from gum, smoking, spitting, or using a straw. Do not brush near the treated area and avoid touching it, especially while numb. Take medications as prescribed by your doctor. If a permanent restoration is needed, schedule it promptly to avoid further damage. Continue brushing and flossing, but use caution around the treated area.
Apply firm pressure to the gauze pad placed on the extraction site for one hour. If bleeding continues, replace the gauze and apply pressure for another 45 minutes. Supervise patients, especially minors, to prevent them from biting their numb lips or tongue, which can cause serious injury. Avoid hot foods, beverages, rinsing, using straws, spitting, and carbonated drinks on the day of extraction. Resume brushing 24 hours after surgery. Swelling and bruising may occur, particularly with wisdom teeth extractions; ice and prescribed medications will help manage these symptoms. Follow all medication instructions carefully. For complex surgical procedures, specific instructions will be provided at the time of treatment. In case of an emergency, call 911.
